Rock Legends' Farewell: The Who, ELO, Ozzy & More - Last Shows! (2026)

The curtain fell on an era of rock and roll in 2025, as five legendary acts bid farewell to the stage. It's a bittersweet moment, isn't it? We celebrate the music, the memories, and the artists who shaped a generation. Let's take a look back at the final bows of these iconic performers.

The Who:

After nearly 45 years since their first 'last tour,' The Who brought their 'The Song is Over' farewell tour to a close on October 1st at the Acrisure Arena in Thousand Palms, California. The band, known for their high-energy performances, had chosen not to include the UK or Europe on this tour due to touring difficulties. Guitarist Pete Townshend, in a poignant moment, acknowledged the end of an era, though he left the door slightly ajar for future collaborations with Roger Daltrey. But here's where it gets controversial... just two days later, they headlined a private charity concert! What do you think about that?

Jeff Lynne / Electric Light Orchestra:

Jeff Lynne's ELO had a successful 31-date North American leg of their 'Over and Out' farewell tour in 2024. However, their planned final five-date tour in England in 2025 was cut short. Lynne's broken hand and an unspecified illness forced the cancellation of the last two shows. Lynne expressed his disappointment, thanking fans, band, and crew for their support.

Ozzy Osbourne / Black Sabbath:

Ozzy Osbourne, after overcoming numerous setbacks, finally achieved his goal of a farewell performance with the star-studded 'Back to the Beginning' show on July 5, 2025. The event featured tributes from many hard rock and metal stars, followed by a solo set from Osbourne and a final performance with his Black Sabbath bandmates. Tragically, Osbourne passed away less than three weeks later at the age of 76. This also likely marked the end of any future Black Sabbath activity, as the band had previously concluded their own farewell tour in 2017.

David Coverdale / Whitesnake:

David Coverdale announced his retirement in November 2025, more than three years after Whitesnake's farewell tour was disrupted by illnesses. Their last performance was on June 23, 2022, at the Hellfest festival in France. Coverdale, then 70 years old, had been cautious about a comeback due to the physical demands of performing. He expressed gratitude for his incredible journey, spanning 50 years, with Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and Jimmy Page.

Ace Frehley:

Ace Frehley, known for his busy recording and performance schedule, played what turned out to be his final concert on September 5, 2025, in Providence, Rhode Island. Sadly, he passed away on October 16 at the age of 74 due to injuries from a fall. A highlight for Frehley was learning in August that he and his former Kiss bandmates would receive the Kennedy Center Honors award.

So, what do you think? Were you at any of these final shows? Which of these artists will you miss the most? Share your thoughts and memories in the comments below!
