Among the chilling stories featured are sightings of the "Beast of LBL (Land Between the Lakes)," which may be connected to possible disappearances; reports of a mysterious shadow figure in New Jersey; and an account of a half-man, half-goat creature spotted in Colorado.
In an exclusive interview, executive producer and showrunner Jared McGilliard shares insights into what fans can expect from the revival of this beloved series.
What does it mean to bring back the show?
Jared McGilliard: "I've always had a deep appreciation for 'MonsterQuest.' Currently, there are more reports than ever of people encountering inexplicable creatures. This surge can largely be attributed to social media, where individuals have formed communities to discuss their experiences, creating a welcoming environment for others to share their own stories. Secrets that many have kept hidden for years are finally surfacing. Additionally, we’re utilizing AI visual tools to vividly recreate the creatures described by witnesses in a captivating way. It truly feels like the ideal moment for 'MonsterQuest' to make its comeback.
Are there any changes or new approaches compared to previous seasons?
This new season not only features cinematic recreations and AI-generated visuals but also dives deeper into the personal encounters while exploring the folklore, history, and verified accounts surrounding each creature featured in the episodes. The intertwining of personal testimonies with larger historical narratives is central to this season.
Can you elaborate on the production process behind the reenactment scenes?
Each reenactment is crafted like a mini-movie based on individual encounters. We brought in actors, set up expansive sets, and illuminated entire forests to enhance the storytelling experience. Our aim was to adopt an elevated, cinematic approach that allows the audience to fully immerse themselves in the encounter, as though they were witnessing it firsthand.
How do you decide which topics to explore?
Each episode of 'MonsterQuest' follows a thematic structure, not categorized by the type of creature but rather by the identity of the witness—such as police officers or veterans—or by the nature of their encounter. After we finalize our casting, we creatively develop each episode’s theme based on the connections found between different encounters. Typically, each episode presents five distinct stories unified under the same overarching theme.
What has your experience been like working on the series?
My time working on this series has been incredibly enlightening. The vast number of encounters, the coincidental history surrounding their locations, and the credibility of the witnesses have all contributed to a truly fascinating journey.
What insights did you gain from speaking with those who experienced these unsettling events?
These occurrences can happen to anyone—children, judges, police officers, military personnel on duty... literally anyone.
Can you recall any specific accounts from the season that left a significant emotional impact on the witnesses or affected their lives since their experiences?
I can honestly say that every story impacted the individuals involved on an emotional level. Each witness has often spent years grappling with their experiences and searching for answers, living with the memories daily.
Which stories are you particularly excited for viewers to witness this season?
We're presenting some well-known narratives that will offer audiences fresh details, perspectives, or historical links that may not have been previously disclosed. Equally thrilling are the accounts being shared for the very first time, each as frightening and extraordinary as the last. I believe every individual story holds the potential to shift the audience's perspective profoundly.
What message would you like to convey to viewers before they tune in, especially to skeptics?
These episodes feature genuine, relatable, and credible voices of individuals who encountered something far beyond their comprehension of the world. We took great care to ensure the series resonates with both believers and skeptics alike. As one witness puts it, "You just have to keep an open mind, as there are things out there that we cannot explain."
