Jorge Martin Addresses 2027 Yamaha MotoGP Speculation
Former MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has addressed recent reports linking him to a potential move to Yamaha for the 2027 season. With his Aprilia contract set to expire at the end of 2026, Martin's future has been a topic of much speculation.
Martin's relationship with Aprilia has been tumultuous, marked by injuries and a contract dispute. Last year, he attempted to exercise an exit clause in his contract to join Honda in 2026, but the two parties eventually resolved their differences.
Despite committing to the final year of his Aprilia deal, Martin's name has been at the center of the 2027 rider market rumors. The speculation intensified after reports emerged that Fabio Quartararo had signed with Honda, leading to speculation that Martin could be his replacement at Yamaha.
Martin, who was present at the Sepang test this week but not riding due to recent surgeries, acknowledged the rumors during an interview with MotoGP's After the Flag. He stated, 'I've seen it. It's funny how early all the rumors are coming out.'
Martin emphasized his focus on Aprilia, expressing his desire to help the project develop further. He said, 'I really want to focus on the '26 season and help the project to develop a bit better.' When asked about his future plans, Martin remained non-committal, stating, 'We will see what happens in the future.'
Martin also discussed his recent surgeries, revealing that his doctors initially wanted to delay them until the first week of 2026. However, he decided to undergo the procedures in 2025 to ensure a full recovery before the start of the 2026 season. He said, 'I wanted to close out this year because it was a nightmare.'
Martin's commitment to Aprilia and his determination to return to full fitness have been a source of inspiration. He concluded, 'I will fight with everything, and there is no option but to fight until I’m back winning.'
