A former F1 champion has revealed his initial concerns about Lando Norris' emotional approach, but it seems these fears were unfounded as Norris emerged victorious in the 2025 season.
Jenson Button, the 2009 world champion, had his doubts about Norris' ability to manage his emotions during the intense title battle. Button believed that Norris' tendency to "wear his heart on his sleeve" could potentially be his downfall. However, Norris proved him wrong, showcasing incredible talent and speed throughout the season.
"Lando's talent is undeniable," Button shared with BBC Somerset. "His speed is remarkable, and I still recall his first test with McLaren in Hungary. He was lightning-fast from the get-go."
Despite a slow start to the 2025 season, where Norris trailed behind his teammate Oscar Piastri, he fought back valiantly. Norris secured his first win of the season in Australia and went on to claim five more victories in Austria, Britain, Hungary, Mexico, and Brazil. His consistent performance and ability to manage the intra-team tensions with Piastri ultimately led him to become the world champion by a mere two points.
As F1 prepares for the 2026 season with new car regulations, McLaren has decided to retain Norris and Piastri. The Woking team will unveil its 2026 car on February 9th, with pre-season testing commencing in Barcelona from January 26th to 30th.
Will McLaren maintain its competitive edge with the new regulations? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Lando Norris has proven that his emotional approach can be a strength rather than a weakness.
