Former US Open finalist Greg Rusedski has dismissed Jannik Sinner's recent struggles as a mere 'blip' in his illustrious career. Despite the Italian's early 2026 form raising eyebrows, Rusedski remains unperturbed, attributing it to a temporary dip in form.
Sinner's dominance in the 2024 and 2025 Australian Open back-to-back wins, coupled with Carlos Alcaraz's decision to part ways with his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, had many predicting his victory at Melbourne Park. However, the Italian's recent form has taken a turn, with two losses in as many tournaments in 2026.
Following a disappointing Australian Open, Sinner took a break before returning to action in Doha. While he started well, beating Tomas Machac and Alexei Popyrin, his campaign ended in the quarterfinals after a loss to Jakub Mensik.
Rusedski, however, remains unfazed, attributing Sinner's struggles to a 'minor blip'. He believes that the Italian's loss of form is temporary and that he will soon return to his dominant self.
'He's lost matches back-to-back without winning a tournament, which is unusual. Is it a loss of form or confidence? Are players figuring him out? I'm not so sure. It's a minor blip in my opinion,' Rusedski said on the Off Court with Greg Rusedski podcast.
Despite the recent setbacks, Sinner is set to make his first return to the Indian Wells Masters since 2024, hoping to turn his luck around and claim his first title in the desert this year. Will he bounce back or is this the beginning of a longer slump? Only time will tell.
