A homecoming for a South Carolina coaching legend! Everette Sands, the former running backs coach for the Gamecocks, is returning to his roots in the Palmetto State.
A Hometown Hero Returns
Sands, a South Carolina native and an All-American running back from The Citadel, is taking on a new coaching role with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. This move brings him back to his hometown of Conway, where he'll be coaching the running backs for the Chanticleers.
But here's where it gets interesting: Sands has quite the coaching resume, having worked at various collegiate programs and even in the NFL. He's no stranger to the Palmetto State, having coached at multiple institutions here, including his alma mater, The Citadel, and now, Coastal Carolina.
A Familiar Face at Coastal
With the Chanticleers, Sands will be reuniting with AD Chance Miller, who previously worked with Sands at the University of South Carolina. This connection adds an intriguing layer to Sands' return to the Palmetto State.
During his time with the Gamecocks, Sands coached some notable names, including Marcus Lattimore, Mike Davis, Kenny Miles, and Brandon Wilds. Lattimore and Davis even earned All-SEC honors, with Lattimore on track for All-American status before his unfortunate injury in 2012.
The 2013 season under Sands was particularly productive, with the Gamecocks averaging nearly 200 rushing yards per game. Mike Davis alone contributed almost 130 offensive yards per game and scored an impressive 11 touchdowns.
Sands' impact on the Gamecocks' running game is undeniable, and his return to the Palmetto State as a coach is sure to spark some excitement and nostalgia.
