2024 NHL Draft: What the Colorado Avalanche Missed Out On! (2026)

The Colorado Avalanche's recent draft decisions have left fans wondering what could have been. Since their Stanley Cup win in 2021-22, the team has traded away their first-round picks in four of the last five drafts, opting for big plays and star power instead. While these moves are understandable, they have left the Avalanche with one of the worst pools of prospects in the NHL. Personally, I think this strategy has been a double-edged sword. On one hand, it's commendable that Chris MacFarland, the former general manager, was willing to take risks to bring in top talent. But on the other hand, it's disappointing that the team hasn't been able to capitalize on these moves and get back to the Stanley Cup Final.
